“Life’s Daily Inspiration”  When Kids Make Me Feel Old

You know back when Dinosaurs roamed the earth. Ok. well, maybe not that “Life’s Daily Inspiration” Little Kids Make Me Feel Old Youfar back. But little kids can be smart Alec’s and not know it. A grandchild of a patient once asked me, did I remember killing any Indians. When I was younger. Not a “Life’s Daily Inspiration” for me then. Lol, I was maybe 20 yrs old.

My Answer was No of course not. But, being a child she quickly said, why were you hiding in the wagon?

Now people that made me think bad thoughts about that little girl. She was maybe 5 not sure I just know, she is probably running her own detective agency right now. Interrogating folks. While they are just minding their own business.

Totally unaware she’s sneaky and trying to make us old folks feel even older.

This little cutie would be at least 40 years older today.

And is the “ Life’s Daily Inspiration” for this article.

Although I would love to hire someone’s child to ask her that same question now. Lol

Through all my many years of hospice caregiving children have been such a joy. All jokes aside I laughed that day till I nearly wet my pants.

Kids can encourage and inspire the most hardened patient.

And the grandparent of this little girl and I relived this moment many times. Before her home going.

Another such story was about a little boy about that same age. Staying with his grandmother. While his mom had gone to the grocery store.

I had almost finished what I needed to do for his little granny. Her grandson was sitting in a chair engrossed in Star Trek episodes. Which according to his granny he lived and breathed.

Her pastor came to the door and I let him in.

And went back to what I was doing which was fixing to check her blood sugar. And give her insulin. I took her machine cleaned and stuck her finger.

That’s when It happened! Up jumps her grandson who screams Oh, No! You can’t turn my granny into one of those Borg things. Oh, that’s not even the best part. He then pulls out a gun an shoots me. Nah, not a real gun. What are you thinking? He was only a little boy remember.

A squirt gun. And so me being the big kid I am and always have been I fall to the floor. Killed off by the Star Trek kid. Not quite. Star Trek kid isn’t finished. He shoots me again for good measure. And shouts Die You “Old Monster.” He had a great time playing and acting out his part.

Until he looked at his Grandmother who kept apologizing to me and the preacher.

I assured it was all in good fun he was little. And adorable.

She asked whatever made him do that? he said, “they said, never let the Borg get a hold of you or they’d turn you into a machine. And then they stuck this thing on his hand. And then he became one.

And Scarlett put that machine on your hand. And I didn’t want you to be a Borg machine grandma. Out of the mouth of babes. You gotta love um.

And then there was the day two little girls, sisters made me a card while I there making a visit. The older one maybe 7 came running into the room

saying her and her sister Kelley were gonna make me a card.

well, about 20 minutes later they both came bouncing back in carrying a card. Their granny made them sit down till I finished.

Of course, neither one could be still they were standing, sitting arguing with each other over who was gonna give it to me.

When I finished they each had a hand on a corner of that card and handed it to me. Complete with sticky kid kisses and hugs.

That was a priceless heirloom It was made just for me from both of them. And on the back, they had drawn a crown.

And underneath had printed these words. ( When you care enough to give the very best) yep! A homemade Hallmark card. Bet you never got one of those.

That one still makes me cry. You gotta love memories like this.

They bring joy in the hard times of life. We hope you have enjoyed our story today please leave us a comment if you enjoyed it today.

  1. Hey,

Great article. I have a niece and nephew of 13 and 10 years old. I can’t believe how advanced they are with technology compared to me. I thought I knew quite a lot but it turns out I know nothing.

They even have better jokes than me and I thought I was really funny.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Tom

  2. I love your stories, they remind me of so many mischievous thing I did and said to grown-up. Some I’m happy I did and some I wish I can go and tell them that I dint mean to do it

  3. These memories are priceless! Thanks for sharing. I would have been on the side of the little boy and not wanted my grandma turned into a nasty Borg! Out of the mouths of babes come the strangest things. How many Indians did I shoot? I too have shot none. I sure her innocence has faded now and she realizes the hilarity of her questions. Many thanks for sharing.
