“Life’s Daily Inspiration” Captain Of Your Own Ship!

“Life’s Daily Inspiration”-Captain Your On Ship!

“Life’s Daily Inspiration”Captain Of Your Own Ship!

Let me share this beautiful historical quote

A  True “Life’s Daily Inspiration” for all.

“We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities.”

  Ralph Waldo Emerson

Everyone of us is guided by our own choices, which in turn means we are all an original master piece created by our heavenly  father and given the gift of choice, to choose our paths in life.

Every path we go down through our life heads through new territory yet uncharted. Where you go is sometimes a product of what we each go through in life on our journey, which can be a positive growing experience or a negative  growing experience.

This simple “inspirational quote” says volumes.

“Storms make oaks take roots.”

And likewise those that don’t bury up by digging in because of force of the storm, get washed away and are good for nothing because they never get the chance to grow.  Some storms are too much for the little seeds to take root and grab a hold so they die off.

People do the same in a round about way.

That analogy could be said of any of us. A loved one dies and we are crushed with grief which is a totally normal response. Unless your some kind of a monster of a person. No one is ever ready and willing to say good bye.

I had a hospice patient who had very little time left.

She lived with her son. The  last three days of her life , I was there to care for her.  For her son this was not one of “Life’s Daily Inspirations”.

Her son took off from work to be near her. Even slept in the room with her on the floor close  to the bed, with just enough room for me to navigate around his Mom’s hospital bed as I needed  to do to care for her throughout the night. Attending her needs.

Her son , didn’t just talk the talk, he walked the walk.

Around 3am I woke her son, as I was sure she didn’t have much time left in her earthly body. I encouraged him to get up.

Minutes later the Lord, called her home to no more pain, no more sorrows those things were all just gone from that room.

Unfortunately so was , this Sons . His Mom whom he dearly loved. He literally started screaming “No, No Mamma don’t go…come back, Momma. Don’t leave me, don’t leave me..”

His pain was so evident and difficult to watch .

His grief was so encompassing . He did this for around 30 minutes .He sobbed on my shoulder uncontrollably one minute and then would be wailing buckets of tears the next. Totally devastated, oh ,he knew she was dying and had cancer and was in pain. And that her pain now was gone.

In his head he knew all that, In his heart was only the loss he felt. There is no wrong or right way to grieve. It’s a journey we must all make sooner or later.

Unfortunately this is something I’ve witnessed many, many times. We all grieve differently.

Your writing on the pages of your life ,every experience  you have gone through good times and bad times.

I had another lady who was dying and her family were scattered all over the house asleep. One on the couch in the living room. One on the floor in the living room. One in a recliner. Another in a different bedroom.

And again in the wee hours before daylight I woke up the daughter that was closest ,who in turn woke the others and the great grandson about 7 or 8 years old who was on the floor.

All came and gathered around their mom,

They held hands and one by one , they told her they loved her , with tears streaming down everyone of their faces. Their  Mom went very peacefully. And each in turn never said a word and just by unspoken agreement went and kissed their Mom’s  cheek and went out of the room to have a moment of grief alone.

Both of these two dear lady’s ,were equally gone on to glory yes, but each family member handled there grief in there own way.

Traveling down the same path and yet in different directions.

“Those who think there is a Time Limit when Grieving….have never lost a piece of their Heart.”

“Life’s Daily inspiration What does It Take To Inspire You?

Daily life is full of many different experiences good times, sad times, good memories and bad memories. At the ripe old age of sixty something, every one knows a women never tells her exact  age . Lol! I’ve figured out somethings that will forever be one of my life’s daily inspirations for me personally.

One of the great side benefits of getting a little age on you besides being able to be blunt about what your thinking, is having time to decide what’s important to your well being. What encourages you and inspireyou on a regular basis and gives you a sense of all is right, in my world at this moment in time.

I was looking through my ipad and found multiple pictures of food carvings I have done for weddings, birthdays and baby showers and even reunions and that is the reason for this article.

Food  carvings

Those carvings are things that no matter how down I am they always give me a shot of pick me up. As much as if the doctor had given me an injection of pick me up serum, if there was such a thing! Food carving is my go to for a guaranteed daily fix of “life’s daily inspirations”.

Watermelon Carvings

The watermelon carving above was for a reunion “A Scarlett Origional” filled with fruit salad made with tropical fruit chunks that consists of papaya, pineapple, pear, peaches and mango to which I added mandarin oranges, pecans granola and yogurt for a delicious treat with a beautiful presentation in the watermelon.

Fruit cake carving

Another piece of my food carving below is this fruit cake, great for diabetics and fruit lovers a like. A real crowd pleaser.

Which is both a dessert and a cool refreshing heathy alternative for all.

Made from grapes, pineapple, chunks and slices, watermelon, cantaloupe, kiwi fruit, strawberries and blueberries.

Who knew playing with fruit could be so much fun, and would encourage me to try out new things?

If they don’t work out no harm done we eat it, and I try  something  else. There are no failures in food carving only practice  sessions ,that is what  I call them, to see what works for me.

Swan carving filled with fruit

One day I was trying to come up with an new form of carving , I hadn’t tried something besides  watermelons, or cantaloupe and not one of fruitcakes .I wanted to create something awesome for my best friends son’s wedding .I was catering for an expected 150 people. And, it had to be huge in my eyes. So I set to work ,brain storming looking around the internet but, there wasn’t anything I could find that spoke to me and said, build me, make me.

Looking for a different kind of carving

Then one afternoon , It hit me I could do a pumpkin carving that said, love is in the air and “Wedding all by itself,” now I had my inspiration.

Cinderella’s coach

What, you say?  A Cinderella coach with the couple inside and the pumpkin I would deck out with beads and jewels be fitting the perfect fairytale in real life pumkin form. Your asking how? Well the end result is below.

This is by far my favorite. I have always been able to picture in my mind the end result which I think of as a gift from the Lord, and I am very grateful for it.

Showers Of Blessings A Life’s Daily Inspiration

Showers of blessings

A number of years ago I had a patient who, whenever it rained would laughingly say, like the old hymn “showers of blessing we need” she was a true diamond in the rough of a person.

And an awesome example of “life’s daily inspiration” to myself and to nearly everyone she came in contact with on our hospice team.

Laughter is a great medicine

We will call her Ms.Mary out of respect and for the protection of her privacy. Ms.Mary’s face would just shine with joy whenever anyone would come to visit. Friends would call her to join with them in prayer about everything. She was known by her church family and friends as a true prayer warrior.

Another saying

Another saying she had was “that our life was like an open bible So be careful what you write on the pages. Every day, we live is a page someone will see.”

She also loved the hospice Chaplin to come and bring his guitar and sing the old songs of Zion. Oh, she didn’t just listen she would sing in that soft little voice and thrill your heart to the core and bring tears to your eyes. Joy in adversity. Wow! Showers of blessings.

Joy in adversity

Ms.Mary had found an inner joy, even though she knew she was terminal. She told anyone who would listen heaven was her home and she was waiting for the Lord to take her home.

That the only difference in her anyone else was her bus was drawing near and she had time to pack.

Your outlook is everything

Ms.Mary had every reason to be down and depressed, feeling sorry for herself but, she was such a life’s daily inspiration. She chose to be an encourager by her action of daily life as well as by her words.

She couldn’t control physically how she left this world for her heavenly home. Oh but, she could choose how she lived and served the Lord before being called home.

A brighter day is coming

The thing she instilled in everyone she talked to was a brighter day is coming. Where she wouldn’t be bed bound anymore, she wouldn’t need nursing care anymore, she wouldn’t be in pain and need pain meds anymore.

A birthday celebrated

The day came when Ms.Mary celebrated her 90 th birthday and the hospice team had decided to have a birthday party. We invited as many friends and family as we could.

We asked what kind of cake she wanted? Her reply was chocolate. And not just chocolate but the old fashion kind where icing glazes over and makes a hard shell over the cake.

A sweet memory

This brought back so many memories for me as this was my Dad’s favorite. And I had made him one the day before he died.

It was the only icing they had when my Dad and Ms.Mary were kids. And the new soft fluffy stuff that most of us love just wasn’t the same to Ms.Mary or my Dad .

Making a wish come true

I volunteered to make her an old fashion chocolate cake, just the way she liked. She sat up in that bed with her best gown , and her hair combed . Her eyes bright and you would have thought ,  we had given  her a million dollars. Friends came and went as they could come by as did the different people in the hospice team. Some brought gifts, but all left with a gift. What was the gift? She gave everyone that came “ a blessing” just being a part of her day.

The giver receives the greatest gift

Hospice teams usually consist of nurses, aides, chaplains, social workers, and a volunteer. All of us wear different hats at different times. Our primary role is to be there for our patients. Sometimes we will take on the role of family, because , often the patient’s family is all gone.

You don’t have to be born in a family

We don’t think we have to be physically born in a family to be family. I have a dear friend whom I love as much or more than my birth sisters.

Sometimes I think the Lord places special people in our lives and in this case our hospice team had become a part of Ms.Mary’s  life.

I personally loved her like family . I will  forever remember her as another wonderful person who with everyday I knew lived a full of life’s daily inspiration to treat others as you would want to be treated. To be an example of a joy filled life for everyone to see on a daily basis even in a time of great illness.

Never give up

Ms.Mary , early one morning, actually on Easter Sunday just after the sun came up,  went  home to be with the Lord.

What an awesome homecoming to be absent from the body and present with the Lord on Easter Sunday. You could never convince me that was accidental. To me it will always be a way of saying to His servant. Well done thou good and faithful servant.
