”Life’s Daily Inspiration” In How Not Live Your Life

This ”Life’s Daily  Inspiration” is about my Dear Great Aunt. She was Hospice the last months of her life.

She had Congestive Heart Failure and very bad lungs. Although she had never been a smoker in her life. My family has its share of bad genetics.

She also had fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and Rheumatoid Arthritis, and last but, not least Polymyalgia.

Anyone of which is truly horrible and she was blessed or cursed with them all.  Not a ”life’s daily inspiration” any of them.

Aunt Lonnie was not your typical sweet little old lady. She had NOT aged gracefully. She was to be very blunt MEAN but I loved her.

I remembered her from when I was 12 or 13 as being loving and kind and very giving.

Aunt Lonnie had, like many of us made some poor life choices, but were great choices economically.

However, they cost her far too much in happiness and joy. They killed her love of life.

She married my Uncle Jim as a young woman. She was just out of the Army as a Nurse.

They quickly had problems that according to my Great Aunt were always Uncle Jim’s fault. But, to be fair I never remember my Aunt taking responsibility for anything. It was always someone else’s fault or doing.

She had fallen in love with a Major in the Army and by her own account, a jewel of a man and a Doctor. They were engaged to be married after the war.

The war ended and plans were made for the wedding and life was perfect for my Aunt till that fateful day.

When the call came that her Major had been killed in a car wreck. He survived the war only to die in a horrific car wreck.

3 months later she married Uncle Jim. Not really loving him as she had the Major, but he was gone. So she thought why not? He’s a nice enough guy.

What a mistake, that forever became his fault. but, wasn’t. It was all hers.

They lived together well, at least in the same house. He lived downstairs and she lived upstairs.

She did the cooking, and the cleaning when she was home. As she worked private duty as a Nurse to new mothers. My aunt would be gone for weeks at a time.

Uncle Jim paid all the bills , did the grocery shopping and did the yard work when she was gone. Then she did it all when she was home.

All of this constant upheaval in living arrangements allowed her to become very unhappy and then bitter toward the life she had chosen. That she had planned arranged and encouraged.

Sadly she chose financial security over love and happiness. She knowingly married someone she didn’t really love. Financial security was more important to her. A sad but, true statement.

Uncle Jim truly loved my Aunt till the day he died and always remarked it was never enough for Lonnie. Just never enough.

When Aunt Lonnie had to leave the assisted living in New Jersey I asked her to come live with me here in the State of Tennessee. She promptly said ” No I can’t live anywhere but New Jersey.”         ”Life’s Daily Inspiration” In How Not Live Your Life

In moving her she passed down to me a red set of coal oil lamps she had wired for electricity. They once belonged to my great-grandmother. They are well over 100 years old. And I proudly display in my home today.

Shown here.

So being left in charge of helping her, I found a VA run facility she was tickled pink. She said ”New Jersey” had the best facilities everybody knew that.

Uh- huh, well that lasted about 2 days and then ”it was the worst facility and they didn’t know what they were doing.”

Typical Aunt Lonnie, nothing or no one ever measures up.  But, these were her choices, not mine.

She could have moved down to my place although I think I might have had to take up drinking. Whew!

A short time later she took Pneumonia.

Hospice called and said,  she would barely eat and they stopped her salt because it was not good for her.

Having done Hospice care, I knew and my Aunt knew being a Nurse, it probably was not gonna make any difference at this time in her life, as she only had a matter of days left.

I quickly told the Nurse to give her salt back to her as she had always enjoyed HER salt.. It was not going to change the end result.

Three days later my Aunt Lonnie slipped away in the wee hours. Finally at peace with herself.

This gave me joy for her. For a lifetime of sad choices for her were now over.

”Life’s daily inspiration” Sometimes they hurt good !

Are you an observer of other people and their behavior?

”Life's daily inspiration” Sometimes they hurt good !
”Life’s daily inspiration” Sometimes they hurt good !

Do you wonder what is or is not a life’s daily inspiration to others? Sure you do! It’s human nature.

Let’s go further, what does “life’s daily inspiration” mean to you?

What makes you stop in your tracks, take a deep breath, and get your undivided attention?  It can hurt you good and it can hurt you badly, wouldn’t you agree?

Let me give you an example-

My dear friend Mary and her husband with the help of extend family, grandparents, aunts, and uncles have raised a wonderful young man.

His name is Taylor and he is a Nurse. I would like to think I had some

positive influence on this guy as well. I was present when Mary found out she was pregnant, to the baby shower, and so ever present when he was delivered.

I have never in my life seen a child so wanted, welcomed and loved. I mean never!

When Mary alerted everyone that she was en route to have our Taylor, you would had thought they were famous movie stars .

The cars lined up everywhere at the hospital. I wasn’t surprised at all. There were so many family friends waiting in the hall, on the steps, in the waiting room, and in the birthing room.

The staff at the hospital was  in awe. So many family and friends awaiting the arrival of this little bundle of joy to be named Taylor.

Taylor made for me!!!!!

Mary had told that over and over when she was pregnant to anyone in ear

shot.” I am going to call him Taylor because he /she is Taylor made for me ”!

That is one of the truest things that I have ever witnessed.

Now get this! Mary did not want to know the gender of her precious baby, nope, did not, she knew the baby was going to be named Taylor either way. Now this is the interesting thing that I could had never, ever, never done.

As soon as the doctor could determine the gender of the baby, (they knew not to say it out loud per Mary’s request ).He wrote the gender on a piece of paper and sealed it in an envelope.

Mary kept that envelope with her, sealed , every day until AFTER she delivered Taylor .I am here to tell you I could not had done that .

Back to the birthing room.

In walks the doctor to deliver this precious baby! But there is a huge problem!

It’s the Wrong Doctor! What? Yes! Wrong Doctor!  Oh My!!!

I saw Mary’s face. Mary quickly asked ” Who are you? Where is Dr.Ordonez? You do not know anything about me or my baby?”

He assured her everything would be ok as he had delivered 1000’s of babies without a hitch.

Mary’s reply was” you never delivered my Taylor made before”

She told this kind doctor that Dr.Ordonez told her last week on her routine weekly visit that he was most certainly on call this week and he would deliver Taylor .

This ”wrong doctor” explained that sadly Dr. Ordonez was in the hospital, same hospital as us, but as a patient as he had suffered from a heart attack, but would be ok.

Mary immediately began to pray for Dr.Ordonez and became friendlier toward this ”wrong doctor’’

He made small talk, trying to calm Mary down, and begin a rapport as they were total strangers to each other.

While the ”wrong doctor” was looking at Mary’s chart he noticed her address. He smiled and gently said” I do know you and your husband kinda and thank you so very much”

Mary and all of us were puzzled. What do you mean asked Mary.

He said” you and your sweet family have been helping my Mom every day since you moved in right by her, you are sweet Mary, that is what Mom calls you.”

Mary screamed with happiness ” your Mrs. Elizabeth’s son? I feel like I know you from all the stories I have heard about you from your sweet Mom. Apparently I have met your wife and children, and well that makes since. You are the ”doctor son” that is always working. I know I have seen you come and get her for dinner and have Sunday outings”

Mary and the ”the wrong doctor” hugged one another.

He sweetly said” Mom has told me how many times you have included her in your family meals and like clock work you check on her everyday and your husband takes down her garbage weekly, thank y’all so much, I am so glad we met. You have taken care of my Mom and now I am gonna take care of Taylor and his Mom, now let’s have a baby.”

Exactly 10 minutes later, Taylor arrived with blonde hair, blue eyes, healthy and absolutely beautiful. I saw Taylor make direct eye contact with Mary, I am serious, I know what I saw.

They bonded then and are bonded now.

Dr. Ordonez recovered well and apologized for his absence but stated” I sent you a great doctor” to her reply,  yes you sent me the best” wrong doctor ” and we are so glad you did”!!

This was a wonderful life’s daily inspirational moment and it hurt so good!

”Life’s Daily Inspiration”-Kids Do The Craziest Things

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” Kids Do The Craziest Things!

When my older brother and I were kids around 7 and 8 years old we learned to play together. There were no little boys and girls that lived close to us back then. We became each other’s “Life’s Daily Inspiration” to play together. So generally  we got along well.

There were no gameboys, no laptops, iPads, our Nintendo’s

Or even kindles and nook readers. Just the two of us and our toys and whatever our imagination could come up with at the time.

We were both motivated and inspired to think up things to do or be, just plain bored. Which would mean Mother would not be happy. And when mother wasn’t happy nobody was happy!

My brother Carl had a lot of the little matchbox cars. Today they are a $1.00 a piece so I wonder what they cost back then?

I guess you could say, she gave us our “life’s daily inspiration” with her threats to tell our father when he got home from work. And like most kids we knew who dealt out the worst punishments.

We had a habit if asking to go out back with Carl’s matchbox collection and mine.

And yes, I had a collection also.Carl being a young boy wasn’t about to play with dolls. Of course I was a real tomboy as a little girl.

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” Kids Do The Craziest Things!
“Life’s Daily Inspiration” Kids Do The Craziest Things!

So for Christmas we got things we could play with together.

(I’m sure more to do with World Peace at our house) “Lol.”

So out back just the other side of the chain link fence we would go. With our cars, our box full of other stuff ,that old ragged shoe box held road signs. And construction paper ,buildings all made on the those horrible rainy days that every child hates.

This was Dad’s  idea , not to bad an idea for an old person .It kept us entertained.

We would scrape out roads with a stick and set up our town and signs and play for hours. Of course being a little boy Carl always got carried away with his brotherly roll. And would do things at some point during our playing and aggravate me by taunting me with car crashes. Like tornadoes going through our town tearing up all our hard work.

He has always said, “making me mad was fun  except  when he went too far.” I caused it. I see that by getting mad which in turn made him do even more just to set me off.

When we were older and had put up our matchbox cars and traded them in for other interest. We were maybe 12 and 13 and we were watching a Disney movie  on television. Our I should say, I was watching it.

Carl had got up and gone I thought to his bedroom. Never turn your back on an older brother and the proof is in the below story.

Sitting  there watching the movie totally absorbed in it. I thought is someone calling me. Yep, there it was again, Carl was hollering “Scarlett look what I found. Hey, come in here.”

And being the saintly darling I am I just ignored him and didn’t even answer. Oh yeah I remember this like it was yesterday day and not nearly 50 yrs. Ago.

He kept calling and somewhere in my movie fogged brain I heard these words. “Hey sis, I’m going through your private papers in your desk and notebook. AWww… how girly! A note to your friend Joyce.”

That’s all I remember because I saw red I was so mad.. I jumped up and went tearing down the hall like a tornado in progress. Carl had dumped out the contents of my dresser drawers on the floor. Which was covering my bedroom floor and had put the empty drawers on top of my bedspread. Wow! My mad meter went from 200 to sky to a cool million.

So I looked around and spotted the “target” aka Carl and he went running out of the room what a coward! With me right behind the little weasel. I just missed catching him by his shirt collar because it slipped out of my grasp.

He went running down the stairs two at a time with me following., Except  I took 2 seconds to grab the broom on the stair well and pulled it up over my head and brought down on top of his head. I then heard all at the same time I might add. First

1.The broom snapped.

2. Carl let out a yowl which mad my mad feel great!

3. My parents walked in the door. Although, at the moment I did not care.

That was about to change…..

My Mother was saying “what is going on in here”? Carl is blubbering and saying, that I nearly killed him and he is bleeding.

Mother demands of my Dad  “do something she could have really hurt him.”

Dads said,” Carl what’s going on and why did Scarlett hit you with the broom?”Up chimes the little liar (that he is) “I don’t know I didn’t do anything.”so my dad looked at me and said, “Scarlett you will apologize to your brother….NOW!”

I remember trembling with fear at the tone of Dad was using. He said “ I’m surprised at you you know better.

Well, come on apologize to him.”

It was about that time I was hit with a bought of insanity and heard these words come out of my mouth. “No, Dad you can beat me till I die but, I will never apologize to that weasel”.

Dad said, “Scarlett apologize to him.” I said “ no and I tried to hurt him.”Not really but maybe make him suffer a little would have been nice Lol.

I was sent to my room.

I flopped down on my bed and sobbed for the unfairness of it all.

About 10 minutes or so later Dad came to the door and knocked. Letting himself in he took in the total disarray of my normally tidy room. He looked at me puzzled. “Did your brother do this?”Yes, he did… “and what were you doing while he did it?”

I was watching  a movie in the den and then I heard Carl started reading my stuff out load.

Dad had this funny look on his face. Next he said “Scarlett I owe you an apology for not getting your side of this first.

I’m sorry parents make mistakes and this is one of mine.

But, still your the most stubborn child I have. Why didn’t you just tell me what happened?”

Because Dad you didn’t ask…

Carl and I regardless of my efforts to brain him are very close always . We always have been. Except when he pushes my buttons and pushes me over the edge again.
