Does anyone besides me remember when you learned to ride a bike?

You can bet your bottom dollar I remember. It’s not hard when you were traumatized by your older brother and his friend John. I think they lived to torture me, no kidding. You would have thought they had nothing better to do than make my life miserable. It was not a ”Life’s Daily Inspiration” for (me) at that moment.

But let’s start at the beginning I was maybe 7 yrs old and my brother Carl would have been 81/2 almost as he was 14 months older. I looked up to him.  Rightly so we played together all the time. You know back when board games were the in thing.

The problem was always when we went to a friend of my Grandfathers and one of Carl’s buddies. As Dads friend had a son about the same age. That was just ducky for Carl and bor-ing for me.

We hadn’t been at John’s 10 minutes till he decides that he and Carl are

going to play marbles. “That was our early version of computer games.  Yeah right! You shot your marble into a group of marbles and all that scattered out, You won yippie.Well, I didn’t say it was a good version gimme a break you used what you had. They

hadn’t even invented Atari computers yet. Yeah, I know those were pitiful times but we didn’t know it Lol.

John and I were not buds I was (A GIRL) and must have had horns on my head and been blessed with the plague.  He wanted nothing to do with me.

Well, I could tell you about the time when we were older and Carl was sick at home. John and I  played spin the bottle up in the barn loft.

Sorry wrong story and several years later. Back to being a two-headed monster.John wanted Carl and him to go bike riding. He knew I didn’t know how so that let me out. So I sat on the porch and pouted.

Dad came out to the car for something and said, where are the boys out bike riding? I  told him yes. Dad said  I told them to play with you. I shrugged!

About an hour later Dad came back out and looked over at me still sitting in the porch swing. Are they not back he asked? No sir. When Carl comes back tell him I want to see him. Yes sir I replied.

Maybe an hour later Carl and John come racing down the hill and swerved into the driveway John’s bike hit the gravel and he went flying off the bike and smacked the gravel and hit his forehead near his eye I could tell you I felt bad for him but I didn’t. So I won’t tell that lie!

Carl went straight inside with John before I could say anything. Well, they did sort of Lol.

About 10 minutes later out came  Carl and John. John went running around the side of the house and came back with what he said was his old bike.

Carl spoke up and said, Dad wants us to teach you to ride a bike. Ahhh no

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” Memory’s Are Like Snowflakes
“Life’s Daily Inspiration” Memory’s Are Like Snowflakes

thanks! I’ll pass. Look Carl said, I’ve already got into trouble because we left you here. Now come on it’s easy.

I looked at the bicycle, now I remember it had one of the banana seats and high handlebars that look kinda like moose antlers.

So Carl moves to bribery how about I wash and dry the dishes tonight. I said why? Afraid you’ll get a whipping if you don’t stay with me. Why would you think that? of course not.

We just thought we would teach you then you can ride around your self.

Well, I’d like to learn you won’t let go will you. No, silly I got you he replied.

That was exactly what he did for about 4 or 5 tries. On one of these failures my Dad and Johns Dad got into the car to leave. Dad stopped to encourage me and inspire Carl with the look. You know the look that’s says you better do as I say. Yeah, that look. I just couldn’t get the hang of it.

By this time both he and John had decided they had done there bit for uncoordinated little sisters. So up comes Carl and says I got an idea let’s go all the way to the top of the hill. Then we will all ride down together ok? No way nothing doing you’ll let go. No he said,I won’t I promise.

So all the way up that big steep hill I kept asking are you sure you won’t let me go. I swear he said.

I should have known old John boy was way to quiet. But I was only 7 and Carl was my big brother.

Then I thought about what he talked me into last year. Which was he convinced me he was catching Bumble Bees ????. In his hands when they’d lite on the hibiscus flowers.

Then he would shake them up and let them go. Without getting stung uh huh!

Did I tell you we were best buddies. Well let’s just say afterwards I felt dummer than a box of rocks.  I should have known better. Yes I got stung, and oh joy I’m allergic. I thought my Dad was gonna have a stroke his face was so red!

I’m just gonna tell you My Dad applied the board of education to the seat of knowledge. He sat on a pillow at dinner. Lol

He deserved it.

So now I’m stopped at the top of the hill and refusing to go down period. I told Carl your trying to trick me into something I just know it. I am not going.

He was slick he rode up beside me and said, Sis I’m gonna be right there with you holding on to the handlebars. I promise.

Even John chimes in how about I give you two of my cat’s eye marbles. You wanna ride with us don’t you then you gotta learn how.

Carl and John get on either side of me at the top facing down hill.( FYI) while we were arguing at the top of the hill. As karma would have it our dads had come back and were sitting on the porch. Hee he there is justice….

We started down that big hill with Carl holding on. That lasted a very short way. I was screaming you lied.. you lied you frog head! Then I went scared spitless as I realized the mailbox was in my way. Carl was hollering turn, turn stupid!

Turn!!! Crash , boom, bang, thud.

Don’t worry 7 stitches later I was fine. But, afterward,  when my Dad and that board of knowledge got through with Carl he wasn’t. Wish I could tell you I felt kinda bad for him. But not even a little.

I Oh, don’t worry it wasn’t our last stunt my Dad always said, Carl put these gray hairs on my head. Of course I was a perfect Angel.

“ Life’s Daily Inspiration” In My Bird Sweetpea!

“ Life’s Daily Inspiration” In My Bird Sweetpea!

“ Life’s Daily Inspiration” In My Bird Sweetpea!
“ Life’s Daily Inspiration” In My Bird Sweetpea!

This ”Life’s Daily Inspiration“ is about one of my best buddies, we’re roommates and best buddies. This article is about my parrot. Yep, a parrot is my best buddy.

You would be amazed at all they are capable of doing. And saying! Mine is a regular magpie at times.  She can say about 50 things.

And laughs just like me. She is forever making me laugh at her antics.

“ Life’s Daily Inspiration” In My Bird Sweetpea!

As well as  making me want to kill when she does not get her way and is really naughty. Like pitching a temper tantrum. Yeah, you know what I mean. You’ve had those same feeling. Lol

When she’s good she’s very good, and when she’s bad she’s horrid! I know you are wondering about how a Bird can be a “Life’s Daily Inspiration.” Well, we are about to find out just how Sweetpea encourages and inspires me daily.

When I wake up and step into the kitchen she makes this cute little squeaky noise 2 or 3 times.

This is meant to get me to say “Good morning” just for the sake of knowing she and I are the only two here. So I answer her squeaks good morning Sweetpea and  she mumbles back “good morning Sweetpea.”

This little game continues while I make my coffee. Then the little ham starts giving me little kisses on my cheek.

If I ignore her she will continually give me kisses until she gets one back.

A little spoiled you say. Lol absolutely. And with a mind of her own. Usually, I make my coffee with Sweetpea’s help of course.

“ Life’s Daily Inspiration” In My Bird Sweetpea!

I either fix a bagel or a sausage and biscuit for breakfast. Oh, yes and with yellow mustard on my biscuit.

Which I love but, Sweetpea not so much. So because of my little-spoiled bird’s preferences, I can only put mustard on one half of the biscuit. No, I’m not kidding. If my “prissy Sweetpea” gets mustard on her bite she slings it all over me and the kitchen.

Hence my spoiled bird has me trained very well Lol.

Then I sit and read the news online and pet little Sweetpea. This is her favorite pastime. I usually during this time talk to her.

She is very loving and snuggles up next to my neck.

Yes it is cute. But, there’s a method to her madness cuddling is one of the other ways she manipulates.

“ Life’s Daily Inspiration” In My Bird Sweetpea!
“ Life’s Daily Inspiration” In My Bird Sweetpea!

When you quit petting. She reaches up an tweaks your ear just enough to remind you she is there. She  then runs down your shoulder looks you in the eye and says “You’re so cute” ,how could I be mad ?

How would you like to be on the phone, not just a chit chat kinda call but a very important call and  Sweetpea is on your shoulder and  decides you are not giving her the attention she needs and deserves? (yeah right).

So I am  trying to quiet her. I try to pick her up.  But she decides not today, you have ignored me royally and your gonna pay. She is correct  I am gonna pay. So she starts barking like a dog. I don’t have a dog. So the person on the business call says do you need to go see about your dog. Uh-huh! (I think what dog?) It’s just a spoiled bird. Which I’m thinking of strangling by now.

I go into the bedroom ,shut the door, head to the bathroom, shut another  door and finally finish my call.

“ Life’s Daily Inspiration” In My Bird Sweetpea!

I go back to the living room where Sweetpea is perched on her stand. She very conveniently as soon as I enter the room starts saying  “good morning.”Why?

Because she is smart and knows 2 minutes ago I would have sold her for 2 cents. ( yeah she’s definitely spoiled).

I go over and sit down in my recliner .Guess who  has learned how to climb down and jump over on me.? Yep the cute little (Pest) with a capital (P). Oh, so your think poor baby! (Not).

She is cute and she is loving and cunning, sly, and demanding.

I’m going to show you Miss Sweetpea being cunning and sly.I go over to fix me a cup of red tea .A favorite of mine and Sweetpeas. I microwave for 3 minutes because I like it very hot.

On the way back to the living room we start the game  Sweetpea do you want an apple ?to which I get “ squawk, squawk, ” or do you want a pecan? Again squaw, squawk, squawk, now she is pulling on my ear.

So I say, Sweetpea, you pick which one you want. I put pieces of sliced apple, 2 pecans and 2 grapes.

I place them on the counter and down my arm comes my prissy spoiled bird. I say, now Sweetpea pick one. She  runs to the sliced apple. Ok, we’re good so I go to pick up the other fruit and she runs cover flapping her wing all the way. I stop and she grabs up a grape and heads back to her apple, so I start to pick the pecans and here comes the little terror Lol. She runs over again batting those little wings to run me off.

So now you know how my best little buddy is also a spoiled teenage being fifteen years old.

Which as a Parrot puts her in her teen years. So I ask you all to pray for me because teenage years are terrible to deal with, Lol.

All jokes aside Sun Conure Parrots such as Sweetpea make great pets.

But a word to the wise be advised they are demanding, and they do not  do well on their own.So if you do choose to get one ,really think about it.

Do your homework .You will want a young bird so you can train them. Older birds are much harder.

Did you know  they are even trainable to be around cats? I had two when I first got Sweetpea. They both lived very long lives. Sadly they  are no longer with us. To answer the question at the beginning of this article anything that leaves you with a memory good or bad has the potential to be a “life daily inspiration.”

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A Hous To Remember
“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember

When I was younger I loved woodworking still do. But, my arthritis has put a stop to a lot of things I use to make. Today I am sharing one of the things I made 19 years ago. You say how do you remember that so well. That’s easy I built a 4 ft high 3 ft wide dollhouse for a set of triplets. They are now in there first year of college. Whew, I am getting old.

Everywhere I go and look there’s another “ Life’s Daily Inspiration” one of the sweet benefits of getting more mature. Not older just better. ( like a fine old antique) or a (great vintage wine.) Just better with a little age.

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember
“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember

But, back to that dollhouse, it’s memorable because of those adorable triplets. I made my own pattern and decided to make it.

I decided to make three floors. Get it triplets! Lol Ok enough with the jokes for now.

I had to stop and figure out how big does it need to be for three little girls to share. I decided on 4 feet wide. 12 inches deep. And 4 1/2 feet tall. With. Gabled ceiling. The upstairs was a bedroom. With three beds. Kind of like the house of the 3 bears.  Dressers skateboards, carpet, curtains.

All the usual kid’s bedroom stuff.

Some people like to go running, others go shopping, and still, others watch football, soccer, basketball, baseball all of these can be a hobby.

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember
“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember

I am one of the people who love to learn new things, I have many hobbies. I sometimes think mine and Elaine occupation with Hospice results in my innate curiosity. But then I remember my dad telling you can do whatever you set your mind to. Anything is learnable.

And if you look back through our articles you will know that I have several hobbies.

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember
“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember

Woodworking is one of my very first endeavors though.

And the triplets dollhouse was a work in progress for about 2 months. While trying to work 60 and 70 hours a week. For those who don’t know Hospice caregiving isn’t a 9 to 5 job.

So moved this project to the back part of my bedroom. And brought all my miniature tools inside. And since I am a horrible sleeper. I’m sure because I’m working all night 3 or 4 nights then switch to afternoons, and back to all days. Yeah, it messes with you body’s internal clock.

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember
“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember

So here in lies the reason I was able to work in my room. When I couldn’t sleep I’d get up and work on this doll house.

I made the fireplace out of pebbles and silicone.  I placed each shingle on the roof one at a time.

And built the jacuzzi from a round shaped bowel. And then tiled the floors and around the jacuzzi. And put the pebbles around the edge.

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember

I had so much fun making the kitchen cabinets. Sink, stove and bought the refrigerator. You can buy faucets, kitchen cabinets handles all from the hobby shop. Or from Amazon online.

I cut and made all wood trim after papering the walls.

And carpeting the rooms I wanted to be carpeted.

I then bought some of the furnishings throughout the house.
“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember

I choose to make my own curtains and kitchen valances.

They were even back expensive. I used regular carpet and small house tiles to save money.

Oh, it was so much fun shopping for all the accessories I don’t think to this day I have a favorite room. But, I can tell you each room let me know you can do anything on a budget if you try.

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A Hous To Remember
“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A Hous To Remember

I would shop each room one at a time. I still love the little copper molds on the wall. I have some still hanging on my wall in my kitchen.

Those kids were made to take care of the dollhouse and when the girls outgrew it. Their dad had a piece of plexiglass cut to fit the back. And seal the back so it looks just like these photo’s now 19 years later.

“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember
“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A House To Remember

My photos aren’t the best but, please remember their almost 20 years old and have faded some.

You looking back I had no idea what would become of this dollhouse. These three girls used the little two inch dolls.

To play with it. And now it will be passed to their children.

Not a bad way to be remembered as someone who is a memory maker. And the best part I get to share in all those memories.
