“Life’s Daily Inspiration” A Gift In November!
November brought another birthday! Number 62 hooray! A “Life’s Daily Inspiration” for me. And with it a present from me, to me Lol. Well, it’s a guaranteed way to get what you want for your birthday. Although that’s not why I got this particular gift.
It was to help me through the tough times of the holidays without my Mom who died August 30th at the age of 93 years old.
I not only lost my Mom but also the child she had become.
But, that’s a previous story so back to this particular story.
Oh, he is handsome and very talkative, smart, an awesome personality. I should mention he snores terribly. Eats everything in sight. And drinks
heavily, water that is. His ears are a little large.
But, of course, I am talking about my new dog. Or puppy to be exact .Not just any old pup but my new pup. His name is Fred. Unless he’s been really sweet then I call him Freddie. And likewise, when I am mad at him he is Frederick.
What can I say is I was dazzled by those big gorgeous eyes. He is everything you could ask for in a mans best friend. Or in this case a woman’s.
All jokes aside a daughter of a former patient both raises and shows Australian Shepherds. And also puts them through competition agility courses. Lucky for me. So when I decided I wanted a puppy. I called her. And she had part of a litter left that she was selling. They were about three months old. She had both a female and a male. I chose the male.
She brought him up the day before Thanksgiving. Which couldn’t have been better! As Mom and I always spent the day together for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I was dreading all those memories flooding in all day long. Oh, there always there that’s true but the thought of that whole day. I just dreaded it. Definitely, not one of my “life’s daily inspirations.”
So my friend Brenda came up from Atlanta Georgia about 10am. From my first glance at the little stinker, I knew I’d done the right thing.
Of course, ask me at 2 am on a potty break and you might hear me second guessing myself. Fred loves to play tirelessly and is just like a 2-year-old , he needs to be entertained. Between walks till he drops for about an hour and then we do it again all over.
But he makes me laugh out loud at his silliness. And he smart as a whip. I taught him to sit on command. In one afternoon.
Thanksgiving was a terrible day made better by Fred’s company and antics. Everything was new to him and he still brightens the dark moments. He may not talk in words but he has no problem letting you know what he wants.
He very stubborn or as the professionals call it free thinking. Evidently being bred to be working dogs. These dogs have a mind of their own.
He’s finding out his new Mom wrote the book on being stubborn Lol. So he has more than met his match.
My neighbor puts out a nativity scene every year and lights all over the front of the house. The first night the neighbor turned it on Fred stopped dead in the middle of the drive and just stared. He’d look at it then at me. I on the other hand, was dying laughing.
I went to take him closer to check it out. He wouldn’t budge an inch toward it. Instead my fearless pup turns and bolted straight into my arms.
I think telling me, protect me mom, Mom they’re gonna get me. It took 3 days to get him over there. Oh there was no coaxing ,he still sat and refused to be moved.
So being the inventor of stubborn, I carried him whining all the way ,sat him down and up he jumps in my arms. My big bad dog!
So I put him down again holding him by his collar and made him touch it with his nose. This time he barked and tried to run but I made him come back while I touched it several times.
While this time he tried to herd me away from it. Gone was his fear he had to protect me from those terrible “Things” whew!
After his repeated attempts to rescue me from the lighted monsters. He decided to sniff one. Then he licked it ,then we went for his bathroom break. Then finally returned to our house.
Only now he insists on visiting our new buddies in plastic nightly. Well, what can I say, guess he finally has me trained.
